The Function of Boron Trioxide as Base Agent

Diboron trioxide (B2O3) is also a matrix agent, which has the characteristics of good chemical stability and low melting point. B2O3 and SiO2, Al2O3, ZrO2, etc., which have a higher melting point, form a low-temperature eutectic, thereby reducing the melting temperature and softening temperature of the enamel.

B2O3 has a great influence on the performance of enamel frit. B2O3 in the bottom enamel can reduce the surface tension and viscosity of enamel, and at the same time dissolve FeO on the surface of the green tire, which is beneficial to adhesion. Because B2O3 can reduce the surface strength and viscosity of enamel, it can make the surface of enamel dense and glossy, and it also has a good influence on the opacity of titanium enamel. But this effect is not linear with the content, but has a certain range. Although B2O3 is beneficial to the opacification of titanium enamel. But it is unfavorable to the opacity of antimony enamel. It is generally believed that in borosilicate enamel, the content of B2O3 should be less than 20%. Too much introduction will cause a sudden change in the better physical and chemical properties of enamel. Due to the small expansion coefficient of B2O3, it can significantly improve the thermal stability of enamel.
